David A. Dickerson was appointed as Secretary of the Labor Cabinet on February 19, 2019, and had been serving as Acting Secretary of the Labor Cabinet since June 12, 2018. He previously served as Secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet (PPC) effective December 15, 2015, by Governor Matt Bevin. As Acting Secretary of the Labor Cabinet, he oversees the Department of Workers’ Claims and the Department of Workplace Standards; including Kentucky OSH functions. As Secretary of the PPC, Dickerson oversaw a wide range of state programs and services including the Department of Insurance; the Department of Financial Institutions; the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction; the Department of Charitable Gaming; the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission; the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control; the Kentucky Claims Commission; the Boxing and Wrestling Commission; and the Department of Professional Licensing.
Dickerson is a graduate of Western Kentucky University. Prior to joining state government, he was a corporate officer in the family-owned Dickerson Lumber Company of Summer Shade. From 1994-1999, he served as Barren County Judge-Executive. He is married to Leighan Hutcherson Dickerson. Secretary and Mrs. Dickerson have four children and eight grandchildren.
